SkyWalk Adventure in Phuket
As your minivan pulled up to Hanuman World, my heart started racing with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Towering above the jungle canopy you can see the tops of sky-high observation decks and slender bridges stretching between them – the first glimpses of the epic SkyWalk adventure that awaited.
You and family can join in on our small group at the welcome center uphill where everyone would be briefed with safety precautions and told what to do and what not to do upon walking on the skywalk bridge. The experienced guides emphasized safety protocols that would allow you to experience the thrill of soaring over the lush tropical rainforest from great heights in complete security.
Palms sweating, as you follow your guide’s lead up the first staircase into the verdant bridge. Within moments, the chorus of birds and rustling leaves overtook the sounds of the visitors screams from the zip-line platforms. As you emerge onto the first open-air wooden platform, panoramic vistas of jungle rolling off into the hazy distance as far as the eye could see. A slight cool breeze rushed over my face bringing an invigorating sensation of serenity and smallness.
After taking it all in from the heights, as you step onto the sky walk, a narrow wooden slat walkway suspended 50 feet above the forest floor by sturdy cables and secure constructed metal rods that would normally hold up any high suspended bridge. You tentatively step onto the high bridge from the staircase, gripping tightly onto the bar handles, peering down through the wooden slats to the lush greenery and black abyss below. A deep breath steadied and allowed you to relax into the exhilaration of our elevated jungle trek.
As you make your way across the suspension bridge, finally arriving safely on the platform where you beamed with immense pride that you had overcome my apprehension. The hardest part is behind you, now you could focus on simply taking in this jaw-dropping experience of walking amidst the treetops.
Over the next couple of minutes, of your adventurous troupe vine-covered balancing beams, and soaring sky hammocks you will be reaching new heights over 200 feet off the jungle floor. Each part of the skywalk bridge has brought increasingly expansive vistas of islands dotting the green forest in the depths of Phuket and closer views of playful dusky butterflies and fruit trees bounding from branch to branch all around you.
As the afternoon sun lowered, you will find yourself alone on the platform catching your breath after ascending a final towering spiral staircase, the rest of the group already ahead. As you pause to take in the absolute tranquility and sublime natural beauty enveloping you. Draping vines and ferns swayed gently in the breeze as butterflies flitted from lush frond to frond. finding your spirit felt immense inner peace and rejuvenation from experiencing the raw power of nature from this breathtaking perspective.
Reluctantly, you will tear yourself away from the awe-inspiring perch to re-join the group on the forest floor below. After descending the last steps, your harness is removed by the guides, as you filled with a tremendous sense of accomplishment and euphoria on that abseil from the skywalk bridge. This was a phenomenal journey you had just undertaken – and a true test of courage rewarded tenfold by being immersed in Phuket’s magnificent wilderness in such an up-close and personal way at Hanuman World. If you knew this exhilarating experience was the start of many adventurous stories yet to come from your travels throughout Thailand.
